The Israeli Ministry of Transport has launched a call for proposals from entrepreneurs, both local and international, to develop two innovative transportation projects in the country. These initiatives aim to tackle the issue of traffic congestion by introducing new modes of transport that will ease the strain on the nation’s roads.
One of the proposed projects involves sea shuttles that will operate between ports and docks located in cities such as Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netanya, Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Hadera, Haifa, and Acre. Companies interested in participating must provide information on the type of sea transport they plan to offer, minimum speed requirements (at least 30 knots), passenger capacity (at least 100), and comfort levels.
The other project being considered is a “wheel train” system based on successful models from China. This initiative will be operated by existing public transport companies and aims to enhance mobility within Israel while providing passengers with new convenient travel options and reducing travel times between different parts of the country.
Minister of Transport Miri Regev commented on her decision to revive these projects during her previous term but was unable to proceed due to its conclusion. She is now focused on resuming work on these innovative transportation solutions and believes they will have a significant impact on enhancing mobility in Israel.
