Brooks Instrument, a leading provider of flow measurement and control solutions, announced on April 18th that its parent company, Illinois Tool Works (ITW), has completed the acquisition of Creative Machining Technology (CMT). CMT specializes in machining and manufacturing services, offering everything from individual part production to end-item manufacturing, kitting, and assembly.

As a long-time supplier to Brooks Instrument, CMT brings valuable expertise in high-precision CNC machining. The company is known for its ability to manufacture and polish ultrahigh-purity components with extremely tight tolerances, which are essential for demanding applications like semiconductor manufacturing.

By integrating Creative Machining Technology into Brooks Instrument, the company is strengthening its in-house capabilities for machining critical components and expanding its supply chain assurance for producing ultrahigh-purity instruments. This acquisition will also enhance Brooks’ ability to respond quickly to customer R&D requests, allowing them to develop more innovative flow measurement and control solutions.

CMT’s precision machining capabilities, which include tolerances as tight as 0.0001 inches, will enable Brooks Instrument to design and produce complex wetted flow path components more efficiently for its mass flow controllers (MFCs). These controllers are crucial elements in gas delivery systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. Additionally, CMT’s clean room facilities, which include both Class 1,000 and Class 10,000 clean rooms, provide a controlled environment for processing and handling delicate electronic components.

The acquisition of CMT is part of Brooks Instrument’s strategic growth plan to further establish its presence in the semiconductor market and prepare for future growth opportunities. By focusing on continuous improvement
