The Broncos will be without Drew Sanders at the start of the upcoming season as he tore his Achilles early in the offseason program. This news was reported by Mike Klis of 9News. The injury occurred before the draft in late April and Sanders has already undergone surgery to repair it. Although there is hope that Sanders may be able to return before the end of the season, he will likely miss most of the 2024 season.
In response to Sanders’ absence, the Broncos drafted outside linebacker Jonah Elliss in the third round. Elliss will join Jonathon Cooper, Baron Brown, and Nik Bonitto at the outside linebacker position. Sanders was drafted by Denver in the third round last year and started at inside linebacker before transitioning to outside linebacker midway through the 2023 season. During his rookie year, Sanders played in all 17 games and participated in 258 defensive snaps and 297 on special teams. He recorded 24 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery. Despite his promising start, Sanders’ injury will be a setback for the Broncos as they prepare for the upcoming season.
