On Wednesday, local, state, and federal partners gathered to celebrate the expansion of the Veterans International Bridge. The project aims to add extra lanes to accommodate more drivers crossing into the United States. Customs and Border Protection will also benefit from the expansion, with eight additional secondary inspection spaces and a new head house being added.

The expansion of the bridge is expected to enhance cross-border trade and strengthen the local economy. Trevino noted that the project will have a positive impact on the business community, truckers, transportation companies, and logistics operations.

Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it will increase capability and capacity at the ports of entry. The additional CBP agents will help to streamline the process and reduce wait times for drivers crossing from Matamoros into Brownsville.
