In the spirit of Mental Health Awareness Month, a Shreveport, LA-based nonprofit is working diligently to provide assistance to those struggling with mental health issues. The Social Therapy Project, located at the Boardwalk in Bossier City, offers free or low-cost counseling services to those in need.

The organization’s goal is to reach as many people as possible and help them access the resources they need. To that end, the Social Therapy Project has installed a large window display at the Boardwalk that showcases helplines and resources for passersby to see. Titled “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” the display aims to normalize conversations about mental health and encourage people to seek help without feeling ashamed or scared.

Valencia Jones, founder of the organization, believes that the visibility of the window is crucial in helping individuals realize that mental health support is available and accessible to them. The interactive display has had a positive impact on the community, with more people reaching out for help after seeing it. Friends, family members, and individuals themselves have been inspired to seek counseling services after passing by the window.

Those interested in scheduling a counseling session can call 318-200-0341. As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, the Social Therapy Project remains committed to supporting those in need and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues. By making resources easily accessible and promoting open conversations, the organization hopes to make a lasting impact on the well-being of individuals in the community.
