Northern Kentucky University will host the first Recovery-Oriented System of Care Summit on June 26 at the Student Union Hall. Registration for the summit will begin at 8 a.m. This is just one of seven meetings taking place throughout the state until September 10, all aimed at providing training and opportunities for meaningful conversations on how the court system can better connect communities and families with behavioral health services.

The commission behind these meetings is the Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health, which was established in August 2022 to explore, recommend, and implement transformational changes to improve system-wide responses to justice-involved individuals with mental health needs, substance use disorders, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. The goal of these meetings is to provide more pathways to success for those in need by enhancing the court system’s response to individuals suffering from these conditions.

Heather Vice, behavioral health liaison of the Department of Specialty Courts, highlighted the importance of these conversations in increasing accessibility and meeting the needs of justice-involved individuals and their families. By providing more pathways to success, the court system can play a crucial role in supporting those in need.

The summit will feature presentations from mental health experts, keynote speakers, and opportunities to engage with individuals who have experience working with people facing behavioral health challenges. Over 1,200 employees of the Kentucky Court of Justice and members of the community have already registered to attend the ROSC Summit Series this summer. Attendees will have the opportunity to earn CLEs, CJE, CPEs
