It was a day of breaking records at the Copper Country Invitational as athletes from Lake Linden-Hubbell and Chassell made their mark by surpassing long-standing records held by other athletes.

Lake Linden-Hubbell senior sprinter Matthew Jokela set new records for the 200-meter and 400-meter events, achieving times of 21.03 and 51.43 respectively. His dedication to off-season training paid off as he surpassed records that had stood for decades, impressing his coach Brett Gervais with his hard work and commitment.

Matthew’s younger sister, Emily, also made her mark by breaking school records in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She set new records of 26.62 in the 200-meter and 59.27 in the 400-meter, showcasing the family’s sprinting talent on the track.

The Kytta family from Chassell also had record-breaking achievements on the day of competition. Kalvin Kytta, a junior distance runner, surpassed his brother and coach Kolson Kytta’s school record in the 1600-meter event with a time of 4:33.24, two seconds faster than the previous record. He also set a new record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04, impressing his family and coach with his performance on the track.
