To promote the mental well-being of children in the community, school leaders are working to break down the stigma surrounding discussions about children’s mental health. At Garden City Elementary School, state and local officials will meet with Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services. This event aims to provide support for students, families, and caregivers by promoting open conversations about mental health.

In addition to this important initiative, Garden City Elementary School has recently received a Green Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts in reducing environmental impact, improving the health and wellness of students and staff, and offering sustainability education. Dr. Delphin-Rittmon will have the opportunity to tour the new school, which includes wellness spaces that promote mental health.

During the event, there will be a focus on mental health awareness, with leaders engaging in conversations with students about their well-being. The goal is to provide resources and intervention opportunities within Rhode Island schools. This event coincides with National Mental Health Awareness Month and is a significant step towards supporting the mental well-being of children in the community.
