The Boston Celtics used their first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to select Creighton wing Baylor Scheierman. Scheierman, known for his well-rounded game, averaged 18.5 points, nine rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game in his last season at Creighton. He also shot 38.1 percent from 3-point range and 87.6 percent from the free-throw line.

When asked about a good NBA player comparison for Scheierman, Celtics assistant general manager Austin Ainge suggested Luke Kennard. Ainge noted that Kennard, like Scheierman, was a high school quarterback with a similar playing style. He expressed excitement about Scheierman’s toughness, experience, and maturity as a 23-year-old.

If Scheierman were to develop into a player like Kennard, it would be a positive outcome for the Celtics, especially considering his draft position at the end of the first round. Kennard, a sharpshooter who was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, has been a consistent threat from behind the arc throughout his career.

The Celtics see potential in Scheierman’s ability to shoot from long range, play defense, and continue improving as he did in college. Ainge highlighted Scheierman’s steady progression over the years as a positive sign of his development
