The entertainment industry in Hollywood is undergoing significant changes as it becomes more exclusive and knowledge-intensive, with an increase in white-collar positions. Despite this exclusivity, a recent study has found that the industry is becoming more racially diverse.

In Los Angeles, film and TV jobs now make up a smaller portion of the entertainment industry workforce compared to the past 30 years. However, the percentage of college-educated workers has increased significantly from 46% in 2000 to 68% in 2022. In a milestone moment, the majority of entertainment industry workers were nonwhite in 2022, as reported in the Otis College Report on the Creative Economy.

The study also revealed a shift in demographics within the creative workforce. There was a decrease in the percentage of white creative workers from 71% in 2013 to 60% in 2022. On the other hand, the percentage of black creative workers grew from 5% to 9% during the same period. These trends indicate that diversity and education are playing increasingly important roles in Hollywood.
