A Brazilian national who recently obtained citizenship in the country is in critical condition after an attack near the Lebanese border with Israel. Fatima Boustani, a 30-year-old from Lebanon who has lived in Brazil for several years, was injured along with her 10-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son during the incident. Fatima is currently intubated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Lebanese Italiano Hospital in Tire, awaiting transfer to Beirut.
Fatima’s husband, Ahmad Aidibi, resides in Brazil and had planned to bring the family back at the end of the school year in Lebanon. However, tensions have escalated at the border between Israel and Lebanon due to clashes between Hezbollah and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The origin of the attack is uncertain, with Lebanon’s National Information Agency pointing towards Israel, but no official confirmation has been provided.
The Brazilian government has condemned the violence that injured three of its citizens and expressed outrage over the attack. The Brazilian Embassy in Beirut is offering consular support to the victims’ families and urging both parties involved to show restraint and respect for human rights and international law to prevent further civilian casualties. The embassy has been monitoring Brazilians living in South Lebanon since the beginning of the conflict to ensure their safety and well-being.
