Brazil will host the women’s World Cup in 2027, marking the first time the tournament will be held in South America. The campaign for the bid, titled “It’s All Ready,” emphasized that Brazil already has the necessary infrastructure in place to host the event. This readiness can be attributed to the preparations made for the men’s World Cup in 2014, which began during Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s presidency.

In addition to hosting major sporting events such as the Pan-American Games in 2007, the Olympic Games in 2016, and the Copa America in 2019 and 2021, Brazil is now set to host another international tournament. The upcoming women’s World Cup in 2027 presents a unique opportunity to promote gender equality in sports, according to Julia Costa, director of women’s football promotion within the Sports Ministry.

As compared to previous men’s tournaments, this year’s women’s tournament is expected to generate less revenue and require fewer expenses. Forecasts from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) indicate that investments in temporary structures will total USD 13 million, which is significantly less than what was spent for the men’s World Cup of $359 million. Unlike previous events that required public funding, this tournament cost will not require any additional support from taxpayers.
