The Brainerd School Board has shifted its attention towards planning for the upcoming 2024-25 school year and beyond, with the summer break of students providing an opportunity to focus on curriculum development. During Monday’s meeting, several topics were discussed, primarily focused on curriculum for grades K-12.

Brainerd Area Schools Director of Instructional Technology Christina Lundgren and Digital Learning & Curriculum Specialist Robin Knutson presented three different curriculum proposals. The first proposal was for kindergarten through fourth grade, focusing on media and technology to prepare students for middle school.

Next, the mathematics curriculum for grades five through eight was discussed, with Knutson emphasizing the importance of providing an updated method to meet state standards in this subject area.

For high school students, the proposed science curriculum involved OpenSciEd, a combination of OpenSciEd, earth, and space science courses designed to create an environment where students can effectively process information. This curriculum is aligned with the state’s framework for high school science.

The Brainerd School Board unanimously approved each of the proposed curricula, setting the stage for the future of education in the district. With these new curricula in place, Brainerd Area Schools will continue to provide students with a top-notch education that prepares them for success both inside and outside of the classroom.
