Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, struggled to understand much of the science during his time in office, according to testimony by his former chief scientific advisor Patrick Vallance at a public inquiry into the COVID-19 pandemic. Vallance stated that he and others encountered repeated difficulties in getting Johnson to comprehend the science, but also noted that leaders in many countries faced similar problems in understanding scientific evidence and advice. The inquiry is ongoing and Johnson is scheduled to address it before Christmas.
