BorgWarner has recently announced two new business wins in the high-voltage hairpin (HVH) eMotor sector, partnering with Chinese EV manufacturer Xpeng for two upcoming SUV models. These contracts involve BorgWarner’s innovative oil-cooled 800V eMotor systems, which have been customized to meet the specific requirements of the vehicles. Production for these SUV models is scheduled to begin in 2025.

BorgWarner is excited to expand their eMotor business with Xpeng and strengthen their longstanding partnership, said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. The HVH220 eMotor, which incorporates BorgWarner’s patented high-voltage hairpin winding technology, is designed to operate within an 800V propulsion system. Capable of generating up to 300kW of power and reaching speeds of 18,000 rpm, BorgWarner’s HVH220 eMotor boasts peak efficiencies of over 97%.

Earlier this year, BorgWarner had initiated production of the HVH220 eMotor for Xpeng, intended for use in the X9 MPV and their upcoming electric B-class sedan, with production slated to begin in the third quarter of 2024.
