The 44th annual Bolder Boulder race is currently taking place in Boulder, Colorado. The 10K course winds through the city streets and finishes at Folsom Field on the University of Colorado campus. This year, the race was started by CU Boulder Chancellor Philip DiStefano, who is retiring soon.

The Bolder Boulder race began in 1979 and has since become one of the largest timed road races in the country. In addition to the main race, there is also an International Pro Team Challenge and a professional Push-Rim Challenge for wheelchair participants. Along the course, runners are entertained by various musical performers and spectators dressed in fun costumes. For some, like 72-year-old Bill Schafer, the Bolder Boulder has become a family tradition.

The race concludes with a Memorial Day tribute at Folsom Field, which features a flyover by F-16s from the Colorado Air National Guard. This year, the ceremony is open to all participants and spectators to attend. Jesse Sarles, who manages web content for CBS Colorado, covers local news and sports stories in the Denver area.
