In a hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Investigations, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun faced tough questions from Senator Josh Hawley. The inquiry focused on Boeing’s broken safety culture, with Hawley questioning Calhoun about his substantial salary.

Despite acknowledging that Boeing had not seen a profit during Calhoun’s four-year tenure as CEO and that the company’s stock price had declined, Calhoun defended his position. When asked by Hawley why he had not resigned, Calhoun expressed pride in his work and the safety record of Boeing under his leadership.

However, Hawley expressed incredulity at Calhoun’s assertion of pride in the company’s safety record, prompting a series of questions from the senator. Although Calhoun maintained his confidence in the actions taken by Boeing, Hawley seemed unconvinced by his responses. The tense exchange underscored the growing scrutiny facing Boeing and its leadership in the wake of safety concerns and financial challenges.
