The Allegheny County Health Department has closed a men’s club in Bloomfield due to multiple health code violations. During an inspection, Medusa’s Lair on Morewood Avenue was found to have inadequate contamination prevention, a non-sanitizing dishwasher, lack of hot water, and improper use of toxic items. Foods such as raw beef tenderloin on top of cheese were found during the inspection, posing a risk of food contamination and illness for patrons.

Inspectors also discovered that the club did not have a three-compartment sink or hot water for cleaning dishes that patrons use. Violations included rodent bait and pest control strips at the bar and curtains instead of doors on the bathrooms. The health department ordered Medusa’s Lair to close and may issue additional orders regarding the installation of a sink for business hours.
