In September of 1994, the Binghamton Mets continued their winning streak by defeating the Albany-Colonie Yankees 1-0, earning their fifth consecutive Eastern League win and extending their lead in the North Division to six games. Tracy Sanders hit his first home run of the season, sending a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall in the second inning to provide the only run needed for victory.
The Mets’ strong performance resulted in their 11th win in the last 13 games and their seventh consecutive win on the road. Starting pitcher Juan Castillo allowed only four hits and struck out four batters, while three relievers combined efforts to shut down Albany-Colonie’s offense for the remainder of the game. This marked the team’s third shutout of the season and reduced the collective ERA to 2.89.
The B-Mets’ success in that season foreshadowed their future accomplishments on the field as they went on to win the Eastern League championship for the second time in franchise history. The team’s success is a testament to their hard work, dedication and talent on and off
