As the first presidential debate of the year approaches on Thursday, President Biden’s campaign has launched a new ad titled “No Plan” in Pennsylvania and Georgia aimed at drawing contrast between him and former President Donald Trump on economic issues. The spot is part of the $50 million June ad campaign and claims that Trump is only interested in revenge and has no plan to help the middle class, while he would give more tax cuts to the wealthy.

The economy remains a thorny issue for Biden, even though the inflation rate has decreased from its high of 9% in 2022 to 3.4% last month, prices on many consumer goods have remained high. Despite this, Americans remain pessimistic about the economy due to high prices, despite low unemployment rates and steady job growth. Michael Tyler, communications director for Biden’s campaign, stated in a statement that “The American people deserve better than a white-collar crook who is only in it for himself.” This is why they fired Donald Trump in 2020 and will beat him again in November.

In April, the Biden campaign launched an ad featuring JoJo Burgess, a steelworker, veteran and mayor of Washington, Pa., highlighting the Biden administration’s focus on union workers. To keep the focus on economic issues in Pennsylvania, the Biden campaign is holding events this week in Altoona, Erie and Pittsburgh with Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County workers participating.

According to The New York Times’ latest polling average, Trump and Biden are tied nationally at 46% each in a head-to-head matchup. In Pennsylvania, however, Trump maintains a slight lead over Biden with 48% compared to his opponent’s 46%.
