Bowling Green State University takes student safety seriously by collaborating closely with the city department to maintain a safe environment for students and residents. Recent technological advancements on campus have placed safety as a top priority.

The campus police departments and the city department work together in maintaining a strong connection, through mutual respect and open communication. Deputy Chief Jon Luidhardt noted that what happens on campus happens in the city, which ensures that officers do not take enforcement actions in the city without the request of BG city.

In addition to their close working relationship, campus officers are constantly upgrading safety features across the campus. Blue light phones are being replaced with cameras that will be monitored constantly, enhancing security measures. Upgrades to handguns from 45mm to 9mm have also been made to better protect students and visitors in case of emergency.

While most crimes on campus involve underage offenses and theft, it is essential to always be prepared for potential risks. The proactive approach of the campus police departments and their commitment to safety help create a secure environment for everyone on campus. According to Luidhardt, “We want everyone on our campuses to feel safe.”
