Growing up in Rome, I’ve seen firsthand the hustle and bustle of tourists flocking to iconic sites like the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums. While these monuments are certainly must-sees for any first-time visitor, I believe there’s so much more to see and explore in this incredible city.

As a journalist, I’ve had the opportunity to visit many destinations around the world, but none have captured my heart quite like Rome. From the imposing Stadium of Domitian to the majestic Largo di Torre Argentina, there are so many underrated and less crowded sites that offer just as much historical significance and awe-inspiring beauty as the more famous landmarks.

With Italy’s tourism numbers continuing to grow at record levels, it’s no surprise that crowds will be a major concern for travelers this summer. But don’t let that deter you from visiting Rome – instead, make sure to plan ahead and seek out these lesser-known monuments that will allow you to fully appreciate all this amazing city has to offer.
