On October 31, 2023, tensions between Israel and Lebanon escalated following a conflict in Gaza. As a result, daily clashes broke out in the border area, resulting in the deaths of at least 473 people in Lebanon, mostly Hezbollah members and 92 civilians. On the Israeli side, at least 15 soldiers and 11 civilians lost their lives.

In response to these escalating tensions, Amos Hochstein, the special envoy of the US President, visited both Israel and Lebanon to urge both sides to de-escalate the situation in the border area. Despite these efforts, on November 16, Hezbollah launched more than a dozen projectiles into northern Israel after receiving a warning of potential “total war” from Tel Aviv.

One projectile was intercepted by the Israeli Defense Force’s (IDF) air defense system, but no casualties were reported from the attack. In response to this attack, Israeli warplanes carried out attacks on a Hezbollah military structure in the Tire area and infrastructure in Khiam, Lebanon.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has led to increased hostilities and threats of further military actions, risking a broader regional escalation. Efforts are being made to defuse the situation and prevent further casualties and destruction on both sides.
