In an effort to level the playing field for all children, an organization in the Triad is reaching out to the community for assistance. Beyond Sports NC, co-founded by Mike Kennedy, recognizes that sports equipment and transportation can be expensive, even for schools struggling with funding. The organization aims to fill a warehouse with new and used sports equipment, clothes, and shoes for middle and elementary school students.

Kennedy emphasizes the importance of having access to appropriate sports equipment, especially shoes which can be costly and need to be replaced frequently as children grow. The rising cost of sports equipment adds to the financial burden for families. According to data from playgroundequipment.com, the average cost to play basketball is $427 while lacrosse can cost up to $1000. Beyond Sports NC is seeking donations of sports gear in good condition or new, with a focus on items needed for fall sports such as soccer, field hockey or football. All donations will benefit Title I schools in the Triad, ensuring that children in need have the equipment they need to participate in sports.

The organization believes that every child deserves equal opportunities to engage in physical activity and develop essential life skills through sports. By providing access to affordable or free sports equipment, Beyond Sports NC hopes to break down barriers and create a more inclusive community for all children.
