In the upcoming Western film “Horizon: An American Saga,” Kevin Costner has cast his son Hayes in a special role. The reason behind this decision was to have his son by his side on set and experience the filmmaking process together. Despite being aware of potential criticisms of nepotism, Costner felt that having his son with him was important.

In the film, Hayes plays Nathaniel Kittredge, the teenage son of Sienna Miller’s character Frances. The character Hayes Ellison, played by Costner himself, is named after his real-life son. Although Hayes’ role in the film is smaller, Costner expressed pride in his son’s performance, describing it as “really beautiful.” He appreciated having his son by his side during filming, driving to the set together each day.

“Horizon: An American Saga” is the first installment in Costner’s four-part franchise about America’s westward expansion post-Civil War. The movie is set to be released on June 28, with Chapter Two scheduled to premiere in theaters on August 16. Costner’s decision to cast his son in the film was motivated by his desire to have this unique experience with Hayes by his side, despite any potential criticisms.
