During the UEFA Euro 2024 Group E soccer match between Ukraine and Belgium at the Stuttgart Arena, Belgian coach Domenico Tedesco was seen gesturing on the touchline. However, after the game, Tedesco criticized the difficult circumstances of the team’s journey to the match.
Belgian police have defended themselves against Tedesco’s criticisms, stating that the Belgians were to blame for their late arrival at the game. According to police spokesman Frank Belz, the police had informed the Belgian team and UEFA in advance that a travel time of 60 minutes was necessary, but the Belgian football association rejected this suggestion.
Belz explained that despite informing everyone about a necessary travel time of 60 minutes, Belgian team arrived three minutes late due to their insistence on a shorter travel time of 40 minutes. The bus speed had to be reduced temporarily to maintain a safe distance between both teams involved in the game.
