In Miami-Dade County, health officials are urging the public to steer clear of swimming in the water at several locations before the Fourth of July holiday. The Florida Department of Health has issued a water quality advisory for Oleta River State Park in North Miami Beach, 93rd Street in Surfside, and Collins Park at 21st Street in Miami Beach.

The warning is due to high levels of Enterococcus bacteria found in these areas, which can cause illnesses and infections in humans. These bacteria are usually found in the intestinal tracts of humans and animals and can be present due to stormwater, wildlife, pets, or human wastewater.

As a result, people are advised to avoid any water-related activities at these locations until bacteria levels drop below accepted limits. This is especially important for those who may be more susceptible to illness or infection. The advisory will remain active until bacterial levels fall within the acceptable range set by Florida Department of Health guidelines.
