The high number of drowning incidents has prompted MDA teams to conduct driving training on beaches using all-terrain vehicles for sandy driving. During the training, drivers practiced with four-by-four all-terrain ambulances, jeeps, ATVs, and special vehicles. In addition to the driving practice, MDA provided first aid refreshers to lifeguard teams on the beaches.

Drowning may seem like a dramatic event in movies with waving hands and shouting, but in reality, it is a silent event where the drowning person’s body sinks exhausted into the depths. Drowning can occur in both shallow and deep water but is more common in children, especially babies. It’s crucial to supervise children around water and ensure pools and other water sources are secured to prevent accidents.

If someone is drowning, call for help immediately and try to get them out of the water safely. If the drowning person is not breathing, perform CPR until professional help arrives. If a drowning person regains consciousness, seek medical attention immediately as dangerous changes in the body’s salt levels may occur after drowning, putting their life at risk.

It’s essential to teach children how to swim at an early age to help them feel comfortable and safe in the water. Toddlers and children who are confident swimmers are less likely to panic and can float on the water’s surface if needed. Avoid swimming at unsupervised beaches and always follow safety guidelines to prevent drowning incidents.

The MDA teams also highlighted that there are two main types of drowning: “dry” and “wet,” which refer to whether liquid was inhaled into the lungs during an incident of drowning. However, death is caused by suffocation in both cases leading to a lack of oxygen supply to the body and brain.

To avoid such incidents from happening again, parents should always supervise children near water sources like pools or lakes.

Overall, it’s crucial for parents, guardians, and beachgoers alike
