Bayern Munich has appointed Vincent Kompany as their next coach, according to club supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. However, certain details regarding his contract still need to be finalized, Rummenigge revealed. Despite Kompany overseeing Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League last season, the 38-year-old Belgian has reached an agreement in principle with Bayern.
Rummenigge also mentioned that Bayern’s sports director made the choice of Kompany as the coach with the help of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. Guardiola had high praise for Kompany from their time together at City and even while he was at Burnley.
Kompany, who has experience playing in the Bundesliga with Hamburg before his move to Manchester City, took on the role of Burnley’s manager in July 2022. Under his leadership, Burnley secured promotion to the Premier League as champions of the second division.
The appointment of Kompany is a significant move for Bayern Munich, who have been looking for a new coach after parting ways with Thomas Tuchel in February. Other names that have been linked to Bayern as potential coaches include Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria’s Ralf Rangnick, all of whom have reportedly turned down Bayern’s interest in the past.
