The World Chess Championship match between Gukesh and Ding Liren is set to take place in Singapore in November-December of 2024. The 18-year-old Indian challenger, Gukesh, will face off against the reigning world champion for a chance to make history as the youngest world champion in chess.

Gukesh made headlines when he won the eight-player Candidates tournament at just 17 years old, earning him the right to challenge Ding Liren. The host city for the World Championship was a hotly contested race between New Delhi, Chennai, and Singapore.

The FIDE Council had a lot to consider when deciding on a host city for the championship. FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky explained that neutrality could be an important factor in their decision. However, other factors such as guaranteed revenue from broadcast and commercial rights could also play a role.

Ultimately, Singapore emerged as the host city for the championship due to its favorable distribution of rights, venue quality, broadcast capabilities, and promotional opportunities for the game of chess.
