An 8 kg tumor was discovered in a 23-year-old man who had difficulty breathing and pain, leading to his hospitalization. Dr. Ha Hai Nam, Deputy Head of Abdominal Surgery Department I at K Hospital, explained that the tumor was compressing the man’s organs and required surgery to save his life. The biopsy results confirmed that the tumor was a rare malignant soft tissue sarcoma originating in the body’s soft tissues.
The size of the tumor posed a challenge for the surgical team, with initial discussions indicating that the patient’s kidney may need to be removed during the procedure. The doctors also had to carefully consider the risk of heart failure complications due to the large amount of blood that would be pumped back to the heart once the tumor was removed. After a lengthy surgery, the tumor was successfully removed without removing any vital organs, and the patient is currently under observation at the hospital.
