The Roebbelen Center at @the Grounds in Roseville is currently buzzing with excitement as over 5,000 high school players, coaches, and fans have gathered for a three-day basketball tournament. With the capability to accommodate 12 full-court games simultaneously, this event center is a significant source of tourism in Placer County. Dave Karnes, who is in charge of marketing at @the Grounds, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting such events and witnessing athletes give their all on the court.

This basketball tournament has attracted over 160 teams from California and other western states. NCAA scouts from prestigious schools like UCLA and Kentucky are present, eyeing the top talent in hopes of finding future stars for programs or the NBA. These tournaments are part of Placer County’s strategy to establish itself as a sports tourism destination. This weekend’s event is expected to bring in $2 million in local economic spending. Local hotels like the Best Western in Roseville are fully booked, benefiting other businesses in the area as well.

Placer County has been expanding its sports tourism offerings beyond just basketball. They have included volleyball, pickleball, BMX, and Harry Potter-themed quadball competitions to attract visitors and showcase what the region has to offer. According to Karnes, these diverse events not only benefit the local economy but also provide exposure to Placer Valley and Roseville by showcasing their amenities and attractions. The basketball competition will continue throughout the weekend with admission priced at $10 per person.
