The Putnam County Bank Sports Complex, located in Hurricane Bridge Park, hosted its first tournament this past weekend in West Virginia. With four baseball and softball fields, a playground, and a disc golf course, the complex attracted a large number of people to the area.
The tournament featured 60 teams and benefited local businesses, with visitors purchasing fuel, shopping locally, and staying in hotels during the tournament weekends. Funding for the complex came from a combination of one percent sales tax, donations, and support from the Putnam County Bank.
Local businesses like Belknap Dough Company have already seen an increase in business due to the complex. Owner Jimmy Belknap shared that his frozen products were selling well at the concession stands and he is optimistic about the future impact on his business and other neighboring establishments in the area. With Main Street just a short distance from the complex, Belknap believes it will be great for the community as a whole.
Looking ahead, Belknap is prepared to ramp up production for future tournaments at the complex to meet the demand for their products. Mayor Scott Edwards mentioned that there are eight more tournaments scheduled at the complex for the rest of the year, in addition to opportunities for field rentals during the week. Overall, The Putnam County Bank Sports Complex is shaping up to be a valuable asset for Hurricane community and local businesses.
