Five-year-old Baby Quan has been hospitalized multiple times in the past three years to treat pneumonia and ear infections. During his most recent hospitalization, doctors discovered that he was suffering from immunodeficiency. Prior to being admitted, he experienced symptoms such as a high fever, cough with phlegm, and a runny nose with green fluid. Despite being prescribed antibiotics for a week, his condition did not improve.

Concerned about Baby Quan’s health, his family took him to Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for emergency treatment. After being examined by Dr. Vo Thi Minh Tuyen, it was determined that he had bronchopneumonia, left pleural effusion, and an infection was suspected based on blood tests. His family mentioned that he had been hospitalized multiple times for pneumonia and otitis media, with each treatment lasting 1-3 weeks.

Dr. Tuyen suspected that Baby Quan’s recurrent infections were due to immunodeficiency, so she ordered blood tests to quantify his immunoglobulins IgG, IgM, and IgA. These components play a crucial role in the immune system and are responsible for fighting infections caused by various agents. The test results showed that Baby Quan was deficient in all these antibodies, particularly IgG, which was significantly below the normal threshold.

Due to his immunodeficiency, Baby Quan’s body was unable to defend itself against viruses and bacteria, leading to his frequent illnesses and relapses. To treat him
