The Avera BIRTHS program is a new five-year grant that has been awarded to the Avera Research Institute. This grant comes from the Healthy Start initiative, with a total funding of $5.4 million. The goal of this program is to improve maternal and infant health in South Dakota, particularly in rural or underserved areas. Kimberlee McKay, MD, who is the co-project director and an Avera obstetrician/gynecologist, joined “In the Moment” to discuss the impact of this grant and its community partners.
