Viennese entrepreneurs Hans Peter Haselsteiner and Stephan Zöchling have announced plans to expand their logistics center in Vienna’s 22nd district. The expansion, which will cost 60 million euros, includes the construction of a new logistics hall with a volume of 250,000 cubic meters and a large-scale photovoltaic system on 4.1 hectares of land.

The new hall will be adjacent to the former Konsum logistics center, which the two investors took over in 2017. The entire property covers 23.6 hectares and belongs to the City of Vienna, which has granted a building permit until 2055.

To enhance the local microclimate, the hall roofs will be designed as green flat roofs, and the facades will be covered with ground-based plants. A new road connection will also be constructed to accommodate the operational needs of the center, which may be in use 24/7.

The long-term plan for the logistics site includes a direct connection to the high-level road network to divert logistics traffic away from residential areas. The extension of Lavaterstrasse to the north will play a key role in this plan, providing a new road link to the mixed-use commercial area. While the project has received overall support, Green councillor Heidemarie Sequenz voted against it in the planning committee due to concerns about noise pollution and potential disruptions to local wildlife.
