In May, advocates in Austin participated in a march to raise awareness about mental health issues. The group of about 30 to 40 people who participated in the march were known as The Bridge, a community mental health drop-in center and advocacy organization. The Bridge’s mission is to make an impact through connection, and manager Courtney Ring has seen a significant impact this year, especially among younger people dealing with mental illness after Covid.

The community has come together to provide support and a safe place for those with mental illness. Bruce Nemitz, a member of the Austin Mental Health Advisory Council, noted that there has been progress in destigmatizing mental illness, with more people and celebrities coming out to discuss their struggles.

The Bridge offers a drop-in service, providing a friendly environment for individuals who may be struggling to find the help and support they need. This service allows people to come and go as they please, making it an accessible option for those who may not have the time or resources to commit to regular therapy sessions. With the ongoing pandemic causing stress and anxiety for many people, The Bridge’s drop-in service is more important than ever.
