Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class has lost one of its top offensive tackle prospects. Carde Smith, a four-star recruit from Mobile, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he has decommitted from Auburn and will explore other options for this recruiting cycle. Smith initially committed to Auburn on April 10, choosing the Tigers over Florida State and Mississippi State.

Smith was the third offensive lineman to commit to Auburn’s class at the time, bonding with offensive line coach Jake Thornton. However, his decision to decommit came after receiving offers from Tulane, Colorado, and USC. He recently took an official visit with USC and decided to reopen his recruitment.

Auburn is now ranked No. 8 in 247Sports’ 2025 recruiting rankings, dropping four spots since last week when another recruit, Alvin Henderson, switched his commitment from Penn State to Auburn. The Tigers have four offensive line commitments so far, with a standout being four-star offensive tackle Tavaris Dice.

Following Smith’s decommitment, the race for the top offensive tackles in the 2025 class has become even more competitive.
