Redshirt sophomore kicker Alex McPherson of Auburn football is facing a health issue as he prepares for his third season with the team. Despite this setback, Coach Hugh Freeze expressed confidence that McPherson will be able to play in the upcoming season.

McPherson, the younger brother of Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson, had an impressive 2023 season as a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, making all of his field goals and extra points. Rated as the top kicker in the Class of 2022, McPherson’s performance on the field has been noteworthy. However, his current health issue is causing concern for his availability in the upcoming season.

Auburn is otherwise relatively healthy as they gear up for preseason practices. Redshirt freshman cornerback Tyler Scott will miss the entire 2024 season due to an ACL injury, and offensive lineman Tate Johnson is undergoing minor surgery but is expected to be ready by August. Freeze remains optimistic about the team’s overall health going into the new season.
