Auburn football recently hosted another thrilling recruiting weekend, welcoming both commitments and prospects from other programs. Among the guests was Derick Smith, a highly touted four-star athlete from Southside High School in Selma. Smith, who is currently committed to Alabama, along with fellow Alabama commit Antonio Coleman, visited Auburn’s campus and had an enjoyable experience on their rivals’ turf.

While Smith has already made a verbal commitment to play wide receiver at Alabama, he would have the opportunity to choose his position at Auburn if he were to flip. Building relationships with wide receivers coach Marcus Davis and safeties coach Charles Kelly could be crucial for Smith’s decision-making process. The success that Kelly had with defensive backs at Alabama during his tenure piqued Smith’s interest in Auburn.

Smith’s potential decision to switch from Alabama to Auburn will depend on how the Tigers perform in 2024. If they improve upon their 6-7 record from the previous season, it may become more challenging for Smith to make a final choice in December. However, he has expressed interest in attending Big Cat Weekend in July, which will give Auburn another opportunity to showcase what they have to offer.
