The 2nd Annual Hope Walk at Aswaubenon High School brought students together to participate in mindful activities aimed at promoting mental health and suicide prevention. Due to rain, the walk was moved into the gym where students engaged in various activities such as origami, daring inspiration art, and filling jars with colorful sand.

The Hope Walk is an initiative of the school’s Hope Squad program, which aims to raise awareness and provide support for mental health issues within the community. Joy Vanlaanen, an adviser with the Hope Squad, emphasized the importance of coming together to tackle the challenges of mental health. The group has trained over 100 students in mental health and suicide prevention techniques since its start in 2020.

The event serves as a reminder that mental health is a real issue that affects everyone, and that the school community is united in facing these challenges together. By organizing activities like the Hope Walk, Aswaubenon High School is creating a supportive environment where students can learn about mental health and work towards preventing suicide.
