Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab railway bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge, successfully conducted a trial run by the Indian Railways. The trial run video shows a train passing through the magnificent railway bridge that spans between Sangaldan in Ramban district and Reasi. Officials have announced that rail services on this line will commence soon.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to social media to share this achievement, highlighting the successful trial run of a MEMU train on the Sangaldan – Reasi section of the USBRL project in Jammu & Kashmir. The Chenab bridge stands at an impressive height of 359 meters above the river, taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This grand project is set for completion by the end of the year and is part of the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project.

The ambitious USBRL project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 20, 2024. Various phases of this project have been completed over time, including the Qazigund-Baramulla stretch in 2009, the Banihal-Qazigund section in 2013 and Udhampur-Katra section in 2014. The aim of this project is to connect Kashmir valley with Indian Railway network, with Chenab bridge being a pivotal part of this initiative.
