Aston Villa has agreed to sign defender Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for a fee slightly above the previous £35m option to buy, as reported by reliable source David Ornstein. Maatsen had an impressive performance in the second half of the season with Borussia Dortmund, helping them reach the Champions League final, although they were defeated by Real Madrid.

Unfortunately, the option to buy Maatsen expired, leading Aston Villa to make a move for the 21-year-old. The agreement between the two clubs is said to be slightly more than the previous fee, with Maatsen set to join Villa Park.

If all goes well, Maatsen will sign a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge as Unai Emery’s first signing of the summer. This transfer marks an exciting new chapter for the young Dutchman as he looks forward to making an impact in the Premier League with Aston Villa.
