Ascension Personalized Care, which is owned by U.S. Health and Life Insurance Company, will cease coverage in Texas starting on January 1, 2025. This decision was not related to the ransomware attack that affected the health care system in May. The attack did cause billing and claims processing issues for Ascension Personalized Care plans, but it was not the reason for ending coverage in Texas.

Ascension is a hospital operator with locations in various states, including Central Texas. They provided insurance plans on the Affordable Care Act Marketplace through Ascension Personalized Care, which is offered by U.S. Health and Life Insurance Company. The company filed a withdrawal plan with the Texas Department of Insurance in April, notifying them of their intention to end health coverage on December 31st.

Texans currently enrolled in Ascension Personalized Care can enroll in a new insurance plan during the 2025 Open Enrollment period, starting in November. A representative for the department advised those receiving nonrenewal notices to start researching new health plans and select a new plan before their current coverage expires. It remains unclear if policyholders in other states will be affected by this change at this time.
