Recently, a case of state treason was reported by the Investigative Committee. A 43-year-old contract soldier, who was a junior sergeant with a title, was arrested for this crime. According to the committee, the soldier had made contact with an individual believed to be a representative of the Azerbaijani special services on the social network odnoklassniki.ru.
The person had created a fake identity on the same social network and through romantic interactions, established close relations with the soldier. The soldier was eventually recruited by this individual and between January 2023 and February 2024, he transferred information containing state secrets related to his department to this person. These actions were deemed to have caused damage to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security of the Republic of Armenia.
On July 2nd, the soldier was arrested and confessed to his involvement in this case. Charges were filed against him and a request for his arrest was granted as per legal procedures. The Investigative Committee is currently conducting further investigation into this matter.
