The Anti-Corruption Committee has released a report detailing its investigation into dozens of cases where individuals obtained driver’s licenses in exchange for bribes. Following the completion of a preliminary investigation in the criminal proceedings, around 30 people have been implicated as defendants.

According to the report, a senior inspector from the registration-examination department in Armavir marz and his close friend were found to have accepted bribes of various sizes from citizens applying for driver’s licenses. The amount of bribe money for each person ranged from 100,000 to 400,000 AMD.

The investigation revealed that during 2023, the senior inspector and his friend administered formal theoretical and practical exams to around 30 citizens who were applying for driver’s licenses. They then created fake documents based on these exam results, receiving a total of 6.5 million AMD in bribes from all the applicants that year.

However, it was discovered that some candidates did not even participate in the exams. This led to many citizens obtaining driver’s licenses illegally, posing a danger to road traffic as noted by the Anti-Corruption Committee.

The senior inspector has been charged with abuse of official powers and fraud, while his friend has been accused of receiving a bribe from a criminal. The case materials have been sent to court with an indictment.
