Apple has recently filed for a patent that could change the game in the cell phone market. The patent is for a self-healing folding display technology that could be applied to a range of devices such as laptops, tablets, smartphones, monitors and other portable devices. The automatic self-healing process described in the patent allows the material to fill dents and scratches without external intervention, with the option to accelerate repair using heat, light or electrical current.

While this technology is not entirely new, as LG introduced a similar feature in their G Flex phones in 2013, Apple’s implementation could be revolutionary, especially for foldable screens which are more prone to scratches. It is worth noting that the patent does not specify whether the self-healing material would cover the entire screen or just the flexible part.

If this feature were to be implemented successfully, it could give Apple a significant advantage in the competitive cell phone market. However, it is important to remember that this is just a patent application and there is no guarantee that Apple will actually incorporate this technology into their products. Regardless, if this feature were to become a reality, it could transform how people interact with their devices and change the way we think about display technology.
