Apple has announced that its upcoming iPadOS 18 will feature a new calculator app, along with other updates such as Apple Intelligence, a redesigned Photo app, and new notes features. The calculator app is designed to be similar to the iconic orange and white calculator found on iPhones, but with additional features such as the ability to solve algebraic equations and create graphs.

The new feature called Math Notes allows users to write math problems using the Apple Pencil and receive help in solving them. This tool will be integrated into the pre-existing Notes app for easy accessibility. Users can view past calculations, convert units, and enjoy an overall enhanced experience.

According to industry analysts, the new calculator app is likely to be well received by students and finance professionals. However, it remains uncertain whether these new features will significantly impact iPad sales despite the premium price point of up to $3,000. Despite this, iPads accounted for only 6% of Apple’s sales compared to the over 50% share of iPhone sales as per the company’s last earnings report in May.

Overall, Apple’s latest features have been praised by industry analysts for their innovation and commitment to advancing technology. Gene Munster, managing partner at Deepwater Asset Management, stated that Apple has made significant progress in boosting its AI capabilities.
