Apple has announced that the launch of its generative artificial intelligence (AI) system in the European Union has been postponed indefinitely due to regulatory uncertainties related to the Digital Markets Regulation (DMA). According to a spokeswoman, the company is concerned about the obligations outlined in the DMA regarding interoperability, which could potentially pose risks to security and personal data protection.

In early June, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, a suite of features aimed at optimizing the use of its devices through generative AI technology. Generative AI allows for the creation of text, image, or sound content from simple instructions in everyday language, as well as providing detailed answers to questions. With Apple Intelligence, users can create personalized emojis or search for photos in their albums by describing them verbally.

Apple is making efforts to catch up in the field of generative AI, where many of its competitors have already integrated this technology into their products. During the presentation of Apple Intelligence, the company highlighted the security features of its system, emphasizing a commitment to data security which has been a priority for Apple for many years.
