Apple iPhones have always been known for their exceptional smartphone cameras, particularly in terms of video recording capabilities. However, one common issue with Apple’s cameras across generations, including the recently released iPhone 15, is lens flare. Recent rumors suggest that Apple may be addressing this problem with the iPhone 16 Pro by introducing a new coating technology for the camera lens.

According to a leak by Yeux1122, Apple is reportedly working on using a new anti-reflective optical coating technology known as Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) in the iPhone 16 Pro camera lens. This technology allows for precise control over the thickness and composition of materials by depositing them one atomic layer at a time. The result is a very thin film that can be applied over a camera lens with extreme precision and can also be used on curved lenses to reduce lens flare and ghosting caused by strong light sources.

ALD technology is already being used in electric vehicle cameras to reduce lens flare errors, and if applied to the iPhone 16 Pro cameras, it should effectively eliminate the lens flare issue that has plagued previous generations. The addition of the ALD film acts as a filter to improve image quality.

In addition to addressing the lens flare issue, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models are also expected to feature a tetraprism lens with a 5x optical zoom lens. This feature is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max model due to size constraints. The larger screens and bigger batteries rumored for the iPhone 16 Pro models will provide the necessary space for incorporating this advanced photography tool, offering users an enhanced photography experience.

Overall, these updates are expected to make the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models even more powerful tools for photographers and videographers on-the-go.
